This work examines impermanence, suffering, and the shared inevitability of death. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, it reflects on Malai (มาลัย), a traditional Thai floral offering, as a metaphor for life’s transient beauty. Carefully threaded together, Malai blooms briefly before withering—yet artisans continue to create it, fully aware of its ephemerality. This practice serves as a quiet acknowledgment of life’s cyclical nature, where decay is not an end but a natural completion.
By questioning conventional ideas of permanence and value, the work challenges the tendency to see withering as loss rather than transformation. The collection itself is not intended as wearable fashion but as an imagined experience, inviting viewers to engage with their own mortality. In envisioning themselves within these ephemeral forms, they momentarily confront the fragility of existence.
Ultimately, this work encourages an acceptance of impermanence. In recognizing death, one can find a deeper appreciation for the present and a heightened awareness of life’s fleeting yet profound beauty.
